Fluffy No-Oven Stovetop Bread recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (not hot)
  • 2 tbsp oil (olive or vegetable)
  • Butter (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Slowly add the warm water while stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of oil and knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. (You can do this in the bowl or on a floured surface.)
  4. Lightly grease the bowl, place the dough in, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, knead it briefly, and shape it into a round loaf or divide into smaller portions if using a smaller pan.
  6. Grease a heavy-bottomed nonstick pan or cast iron skillet with the remaining 1 tbsp oil.
  7. Place the dough in the cold pan, cover with a lid, and let it rest for another 20–30 minutes.
  8. Turn the heat to low and cook covered for 10–15 minutes. Check the bottom for a golden crust.
  9. Flip the bread, cover again, and cook the other side for another 8–10 minutes.
  10. Remove from pan, brush with butter if desired, and cool slightly before slicing.

✨ Tips:

  • Use a diffuser if your stovetop gets too hot to avoid burning.
  • You can add herbs, garlic, or cheese for extra flavor.
