Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp instant dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (not hot)
- 2 tbsp oil (olive or vegetable)
- Butter (optional, for brushing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Slowly add the warm water while stirring until a dough forms.
- Add 1 tablespoon of oil and knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. (You can do this in the bowl or on a floured surface.)
- Lightly grease the bowl, place the dough in, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, knead it briefly, and shape it into a round loaf or divide into smaller portions if using a smaller pan.
- Grease a heavy-bottomed nonstick pan or cast iron skillet with the remaining 1 tbsp oil.
- Place the dough in the cold pan, cover with a lid, and let it rest for another 20–30 minutes.
- Turn the heat to low and cook covered for 10–15 minutes. Check the bottom for a golden crust.
- Flip the bread, cover again, and cook the other side for another 8–10 minutes.
- Remove from pan, brush with butter if desired, and cool slightly before slicing.
✨ Tips:
- Use a diffuser if your stovetop gets too hot to avoid burning.
- You can add herbs, garlic, or cheese for extra flavor.
