Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Prepare the cheese:
Cut string cheese into bite-sized pieces (about 1 inch each). Place them on a plate and freeze for 20–30 minutes. This helps prevent melting during frying. - Set up the breading station:
- In one bowl, add the flour.
- In a second bowl, beat the eggs with milk.
- In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with garlic powder and oregano if using.
- Coat the cheese bites:
Roll each frozen cheese piece in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps for a double coating. - Heat the oil:
In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). - Fry the bites:
Working in batches, carefully drop the coated cheese bites into the hot oil. Fry for 30–60 seconds or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels. - Serve:
Serve hot with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
