📝 Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins (or a mix)
- Zest of 1 orange (optional but festive!)
- 2/3 cup (160ml) whole milk or buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
Optional glaze (for that festive shine):
- 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar
- 1–2 tsp orange juice or milk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
- Stir in dried cranberries/raisins and orange zest.
- In a small bowl, mix milk and vanilla, then pour into the flour mixture. Stir just until a soft dough forms — do not overmix.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges or use a round cutter for classic scone shapes.
- Place on prepared tray. Brush tops with beaten egg for golden tops.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, until risen and golden.
- While still warm, drizzle with optional glaze if using.
☕ Serving Tip:
Serve warm with clotted cream, butter, or spiced jam. Add a mug of chai or hot cider for peak cozy vibes.
