Chocolate Fudge Cake

By Amna Malik

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • ½ cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup hot water (or hot coffee for richer flavor)

For Fudge Frosting:

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven → Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients → In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients → In another bowl, whisk eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine → Gradually add dry ingredients into wet mixture. Stir until just combined. Slowly pour in hot water/coffee and mix until smooth (batter will be thin).
  5. Bake → Pour batter into the pan. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool.
  6. Make Fudge Frosting → Heat cream until warm, pour over chocolate chips, add butter, and stir until glossy. Mix in vanilla.
  7. Frost the Cake → Spread fudge frosting over cooled cake. Let it set for a rich, glossy finish.
